Mathematics The maths department is unrecognisable from three years ago as it has gone through a remarkable period of change. In the OFSTED report in January 2004 the maths department was seen as an ‘unsatisfactory’ department. We have since shed this label and are on our way to becoming one of the leading departments within school We now have a team of dedicated, excellent teachers who are committed to the progress of the department. Resources have been significantly improved. We now have textbooks for all year groups, revision materials for years 9 and 11 and three interactive whiteboards within the newly, purpose built maths block. Key Stage 3 results are excellent. They have been above 80% level 5s and above and above 60% level 6s and above for the last two years. Key Stage 4 have significantly improved this year, reaching 56% A*-C. We follow the OCR graduated assessment syllabus where the students take modules in year 10; coursework is done in 10 and 11 and then the terminal paper in year 11. Key Stage 5 results are also good. This year 100% of pupils achieved a grade C or better at A2. My vision for the maths department is clear. I would like the success of Key Stage 3 and 5 to be sustained and replicated in Key Stage 4. The school is currently deciding what specialism to adopt and I would like to put forward Maths as the lead department. We, as a team, have made huge improvements and are now looking forward to the next challenge. |
